My holy grail styling tool- the Hot Tools Professional Curling Iron. I will stand by this iron till the day I die, literally. Size is very important and for my hair and length, the 1-1/4″ iron gives me the best bouncy curls! I can make them tighter or loose depending on how long I keep the hair under the heat. If your hair is long, I recommend using the Extra Long Iron. I’ve received so many compliments on my hair and it’s all thanks to Hot Tools!

HOW TO GET LOOSE CURLS
- Start with dry hair. I normally wash my hair at night and then run the blow dryer the next morning prior to curling my hair if need be. In this video, I let me hair air dry all through the next day so there was no need to run the blow dryer to give it a smooth feel/look.
- Prep your hair. Most people use a heat protectant spray for their hair prior to curling. Use your favorite heat protectant. I don’t use one (I know, silly of me) because I noticed any kind of hair spray/product weighs my hair down leading my curls to fall quick and not lasting the entire day. If you know your hair does well with product, by all means use your preferred hairspray for hold.
- Split your hair down the middle in two sections. Make sure to have a hair clip and hair tie handy! Once your hair is divided in two, you’re going to tie the left side into a pony tail and start with the right side (doesn’t matter) first. Split the right side into two- top and bottom. Clip the top part so it’s out of your way. Brush the bottom section.
- Curl from back to front. It’s easier to curl your hair from back to front because you can throw those fresh curls behind your shoulder so they don’t get tangled with the rest of your hair. Using a 1-1/4 ” Curling Iron, Take a section from the back of your head (2″ – 3″ wide) and brush through your hair again so your curl comes out nice and smooth. Then, take your curling iron and clamp it towards the bottom half of your hair and give it 1-2 twists away from your face so you have a few inches of hair hanging off of the end. Hold it for a few seconds, open up the clamp and give it another 1-2 twists away from your face- hold for a few more seconds. Keep the iron vertical! As you curl, add more hair so it stacks so there’s more heat (curls will last longer) I like to curl my ends but if you want straight ends, leave about 1-2 inches of hair out of the iron. Repeat the same step with the rest of your hair.
- Spray your curls with hairspray. Be sure to use a LIGHT spray in order to avoid your curls feeling “crunchy” or stiff. We like our curls bouncy and soft. I personally don’t use hairspray as it weighs my hair down and my curls end up falling faster.
- Lightly finger comb or brush your hair, but don’t pull your fingers all the way through the ends of the curls. I personally brush because I have thick hair. If you have thin hair, I recommend finger combing it this way your curls don’t fall as fast and last throughout the day.
- Flip your hair. Yes, you’re going to flip your head back and forth! This will add so much more volume and will make styling your hair much easier.
- Et Voila! Your hair never looked better. Workkkkkkk it!
